Last week, I had one of my friends come into my office and we discussed what he should do with his career. He was unsure if he wanted to be an airline pilot, but we talked about the vast amount of other jobs in the aviation industry he could do. This week, I figured I could share some of the ones we came up with in case any of my readers are also preferring to pursue a different path in aviation.
Helicopter Pilot! If you're a person who prefers helicopters over planes, there are so many helicopter jobs you can do. Medical, search and rescue, news, aerial tours, etc. If you decide to switch over to rotorcraft, know that there are plenty of different jobs available based on your interests. UND does their training in Robinson R44 Helicopters.
UAS! Drones are becoming more and more technologically advanced, and I believe that they will someday become even more prominent in aviation than airplanes or helicopters. Flying drones eliminates so many risks that normally comes with general aviation.
Gate agent! Flight attendant! So many different jobs! There are so many jobs that factor into an airline working, not just pilots. I had one friend who loved aviation but didn't love flying the plane himself, so now he's a gate agent. I have another friend who loves aviation but doesn't want to be a pilot, so she's pursuing business in the hopes of working in an HR department for an airline.
Want to be an airplane pilot but not for an airline? We can talk about that next week!
